40 years ago, in 1966, Emily and John Hoover
purchased their first Dalmatian from Fred Klensch for their sons, Scott (7) and Todd (4). This puppy was sired
by Am/Can Ch Pacifica Pride of Poseidon. “Sy” was a Best In Show winner and winner of seven Specialties.
After moving from California to GA they purchased their second “Sy” puppy who Emily showed. She became
Ch Atlantis Love of Pacifica. A year later they acquired Lady of Carpenterdal, “Happi”, who was
Love’s mother. Both Love and Happi along with Love’s granddaughter Atlantis Smashing Spirit, “Spirit”,
were Dog World Hall of Fame winners, as top producers.
Atlantis Founder Emily Hoover and one of her current Dalmatians, Ch Laurel Atlantis CherMar’s Diva, "Diva".
"Spirit" produced 4 champions from one litter.
Although none were shown as specials, littermates Ch Nothlems Top Spot, "Top Spot" and Ch
Atlantis Flashdance, "Flashdance", Ch Windrift Atlantis Bravo, "Bravo" and Ch Atlantis Class
Act, "CA", are well remembered.

In 1981 a Love son, Ch Atlantis Alexander The Great, won a Best in Sweepstakes, and finished very
quickly with breed wins and a group placement. He was then sold and in six months, he became ranked number 6 in
1976 and 9 in 1977. In 1982 he was listed in the DCA Keepsake as one of the breeds top winners from 1904 – 1982.
When breeding Dalmatians, Emily has always felt good temperament and good health to be the most
important considerations. Emily is one of the founding members of the Dalmatian Club of Greater Atlanta as
well as one of the first members of the Mid-Florida Dalmatian Club. She is a long time member of the Atlanta
Kennel Club and past member of the Kennesaw Kennel Club (GA) and Clearwater Kennel Club (FL). Emily has
judged at 3 well attended Regional Specialties in Ohio, the Northeast and Texas.
In the 70's, Kathy McCoubrey of Ravenwood Dalmatians,
purchased a "Love" puppy, Ch Atlantis Conquestador CDX AD, "Monte". He was the first Champion
Dalmatian to get a Schutzund endurance title. The happy clown, "Monte" is, if you look back far enough,
behind Ravenwood, A to Z, and Monumental Dalmatians, Tana Rugg.
Ch Atlantis Conquestador CDX AD,"Monte"
From Kathy McCoubrey's book:
"CH Atlantis Conquestador, CDX, AD, finished his championship and his CDX the same day. He is found in the pedigree of every Ravenwood Dalmatian. ?Monte,?
as he was known to his friends, produced many well-known offspring, including:
CH Ravenwood Knight Games, CD
AM/BAH CH Ravenwood China Clipper, AM CDX, BAH CD
CH Ravenwood Polished Pebbles UD
CH Random Jazz From A To Z ~ Specialty winner.
Monte's great grandson is CH Ravenwood Stop The World, CDX, NAJ, CGC, TDInc, VCCX, "Newley"."
Emily is impressed with all of the success Kathy, Carla, and Tana have had in performance events. Kathy is
also the proud author of an excellent book, All About Dalmatians.

In the late 80's, Ch Atlantis Flashdance, "Flashdance" was bred to
Ch Tucwinn Hot Chocolate. He was a son of the Best In Show liver Ch Melody Dynamatic, owned
and shown by Ed Flock. The litter was whelped by son and co-breeder Todd. He was in Southern California in
the Air Force. Dr. Dennis Casey was his boss. Emily went out to California to help with the puppies and
fortunately met the Casey family. Suzi, Emily and Todd co-owned a nice puppy from the litter who became
Ch Atlantis Nicki Star Dancer.
Ch Atlantis Sunday Best, "Sunday", co-bred by Suzi Casey and
BIS BISS Ch Starwood's Pride of Atlantis, "Deacon", owned by Joni
Shoup co-owned by Suzi Casy was co-bred by Suzi Casey and Emily Hoover.
|Later they bred her to Ch Merry Go Round XKE. This line
breeding on "Sy" produced a beautiful puppy who later became Ch Atlantis Sunday Best. "Sunday"
placed 2nd in Sweepstakes at DCA and was ranked #12 in 1995 and 1996, beating a couple of Best in Show
dogs on her way to Group wins. Later she would take first place (out of 12) to win the Brood Bitch class
at the 2002 DCA National in Hutto, TX.
Suzi and Emily bred her to Ch Ranger of Starwood and she produced three Champions,
BIS BISS Am/Can/Int Ch Starwood?s Pride of Atlantis, ?Deacon?, Ch Starwood Spirit of Atlantis,
"Gracie", and Ch Atlantis Never On A Sunday, "Hooker". ?Deacon? is a Best In Show winner. ?Hooker?
is the dam of Suzie?s recently retired Best In Show, Ch Atlantis Riverboat Gambler, ?Gambler?.
"Gracie" & "Deacon" are prominent in Starwood pedigrees.
Ch Gracie and BIS Ch Deacon
|Emily and Suzi co-bred for thirteen years, thus both use the Atlantis kennel name.
Emily is extremely grateful for all Suzi and Joni have done in carrying on that branch of Atlantis. Without
Suzi, Emily would not have had "Tex", Ch Atlantis Texas Country Boy or "Diva", Laurel Atlantis CherMar's
Diva, who is a great-great granddaughter of Nicki. "Diva" was bred by Linda Scheller-Bradley and Emily and is
a daughter of Ch Lrl Atls Teracotta of Pal bred by John and Jennifer Cramer, and a grand-daughter of
Ch Well, Atlantis Fancy That O'Pal.
